Tina Feigal, M.S., Ed. is the Director of Family Engagement at Anu Family Services in St. Paul, MN. A former school psychologist Is now a parenting coach and parenting coach trainer at the Center for the Challenging Child now a branch of Anu Family Services.
As a coach and trainer of coaches, Tina supports adults in applying the techniques in her books Present Moment Parenting: The Guide to a Peaceful Life with Your Intense Child, winner of the 2017 Moms Choice Gold Award and available on Amazon and Audible; and e-book, Healing the Heart of Your Traumatized Child, available on Amazon.
Tina trains parent coaches as part of her vision that every adult who wants a parent coach can pick up the phone and find one! She was a school psychologist, evaluating kids for emotional/behavioral disorders - she thought, "If I could just get to the adults who love, care for, and teach these kids, we wouldn't need so many of these evaluations." She then took a course on life coaching, but as she left the hotel where it was being taught, she thought, "I'm not a life coach; I'm a parent coach." She just made it up, and 20 years later - she has trained over 500 people to be parent coaches.
She wants to tell the public that we have parenting all wrong when we think in terms of "morality" instead of helping a child feel safe. We've forgotten that moral development takes place over time, with repetition. Kids are not small adults, and when we're upset with them, we need to see that they are in process, not fully developed. We can then address them in their present state with love and teach them, not blame them for not knowing something they don't know yet.
